about
Immediately, terrifyingly, the ignition of the R-7 rocket boosters ripped Laika from the Void Hymn. Sputnik II ascended with a trail of fire and smoke while the engineers who had become fond of her watched and wept.
True to form, the Soviet propagandists issued press releases proclaiming that Laika lived for a week, but more recent data released after the fall of the USSR reveals how she died: within hours of reaching space due to overheating inside the module. Sputnik II orbited the Earth with Laika, lifeless, thousands of times, for months on end before burning up in the atmosphere, in bright streaks across the sky.
The second major event in humanity’s reach to the heavens stands as a somber meditation on our innumerable self-inflicted tragedies. Our refusal to learn from our past has set humanity on a decaying orbit, and perhaps we will all fittingly share Laika’s tragic fate.
“The lessons left forgotten will cast this daydream into dust”
lyrics
Quickening of pace
The planetary pressure builds, hammering endlessly
Recognition is elusive, the real grounds have deceased
Marvel at his might, submit to panic if it suits her
Cascading to the void
Grim dusk is imminent, riveting
Lost into starry night, an offering
Gasping the forging fire, caged to darkness
Hubris delays the predetermined time
Time dilates within mortal concern that overtakes
Gaia’s exhaled sigh
Pace and sense are quickening
Heaven’s pressure builds
Perpetual are the echoes
Recognition escapes rationality
The grounds are deceased, footsteps hovering
Transmissions from below
Sovereign faith is questioned
Dark matter dominates cosmic time
All domains are reset
The silent astral echo
A cycle rippling through time
The lessons left forgotten
Will cast this daydream into dust
The circuitry consumed
A silent astral echo
A cycle rippling through time
The circuitry consumed

I love the light and shade between Bryan's dirty and Emma's forlorn vocals. There are so many layers to this recording that are driven home through contrast. Plus the riffs are brilliant and get me moving. I can't stop listening to Thou and Emma in general lately. spaceman2250
