about
“Consciousness transformed by beacons, persistent harmonies”
On October 31 1957, Laika was finally loaded into the Sputnik II module atop the Soviet R-7 rocket, which loomed over the launchpad at the Baikonur Cosmodrome. She waited there alone for three days as technical issues were resolved.
As she waited, she listened to the module’s electronic hums and watched the pulsing beacons in the cockpit and on the launchpad. Her past memories of confinement, the centrifuge, the laboratory, were all amplified as she awaited launch.
lyrics
Wires hum their message
Transistors bridging waves of time
Consciousness transformed by beacons, persistent harmonies
Past recognitions are amplified throughout the waiting
Pulses degrade with reprieve throughout
Familiar images remain frozen again
As regular comforts begin to disintegrate
Amidst a cycle that’s never ending
Amidst a cycle that’s bleak and overwhelming
Still echoes and orbit
Time becomes consumed
The image has decayed
A boundary crossed
Still echoes and orbit
Life becomes consumed
The image has deceased
A void for him
Sounds of machines deafen
Past consciousness lost
Enveloped by restraints
Her body distorts
Surrounded by darkness
Lights glowing in response
to imagined words
Perceived past the harbor
A dead message
Aspects will shape through shifting of frames
Thoughts diverge and disappear
With recognition come
The resignation hums
A boundary crossed, a void created
The memories will distort
The ending will be forced
Her cognitions have disengaged
A slumber of selfishness looming
Raining down upon her body endlessly
Domination
Subjugation
Action without repercussion
Domination
Subjugation
Raining down upon her endlessly
The congregation of termination
A forging fire burning attentively
Domination
Subjugation
Her body sent to blackened seas

I love the light and shade between Bryan's dirty and Emma's forlorn vocals. There are so many layers to this recording that are driven home through contrast. Plus the riffs are brilliant and get me moving. I can't stop listening to Thou and Emma in general lately. spaceman2250
What an impressive piece of black metal. This one-man hurricane is pure art. Sgah‘gahsowáh creates an haunting atmosphere. He puts so much soul in his music. Sælzer Bub
